When it comes to energy suppliers, the general view is something along the lines of energy is a commodity and so it doesn’t matter who provides it – I just want it to be as cheap as possible. Could spending a little more money, save you a lot of headaches later down the line? Invariably, you will need to be in touch with your energy supplier at one (if not multiple) points of time during your contract. Very low-cost suppliers tend not to have the overheads the larger suppliers do, which can mean fewer people there to take your call and longer wait time. This is not always the case, but something to consider.
It’s not always true to say ‘the cheaper, the better. In some cases, larger, more established or more conscientious companies can add more value to you outside of the confines of your energy contract. For instance, some energy providers are more likely to have smoother customer journeys, more enhanced and painless customer compensation policies and can be less-likely to muddle-up your account.
The creation, transmission & distribution of your energy can carry a heavy carbon footprint. If it means something to you to support the environment, or perhaps you just want a ‘feel-good boost’, look at which providers can provide you with a fully renewable energy mix. There are an increasing number of energy suppliers which are offering an all-green tariff now, so they are certainly becoming more accessible
